BAKER TO VEGAS THIS WEEKEND!!!

Team Coast Guard,

ARE YOU READY!?!?

This is the weekend we have all been working up to. I ask you to all please take the time to re-read the rules at bakervegas.com to familiarize yourself with the race if you have not gone before.

If you have any questions email me ASAP so I can clear them up. Make sure you check out the travel plan and agenda. BM3 Lesley and I went off of who responded to him about needing a ride in a GV. If your name is NOT on this list we do NOT have you riding in a GV. If you would like to and your name is not on the list email me ASAP.

If you still have remaining questions (such as what should I wear to the awards ceremony - your blue team t-shirt, or can I wear my IPOD on leg 14 - yes) please do not hesitate to ask me. BM3 Lesley is a race veteran and can help you out with any questions as well.

I am excited to be there with all of you this weekend and cannot wait until we are all there at the finish line together!

Please be safe and do not break anything (until the race is over at least!)...

Your Captains,
LTJG Young, DC1 Wissmann, BM3 Lesley

notes from this weekend and team cook out this Sunday!

For all those who did not make the run on Saturday, you missed out. It was a great day to run the strand and we even had a flyover by AIRSTA on my last mile! Too bad I got my but kicked by Joe Rudolph and John Dirschel (Leslie Hearn and I held our ground though!). Also of note was Greg Duncan running further than everyone and thus disappearing at the end.

Thanks to all those who could make it! We are planning an after work run on the stairs (pending rain!) sometime later this week.

Also, we are having our BBQ this Sunday starting at 1100. It would be great if we can get as big a turnout as possible. The event will include volunteers, runners and family and promises to be fun and informative for first (and second) time participants. We are handing out the team t-shirts, so please bring cash/checks so you can take yours home. We will be delegating out certain foods by Wednesday, so if you plan on bringing something specific please let me know before then.

Your Team Co-Captains,
LTJG Young and DC1 Wissmann

Team t-shirts

Runners and Alternates,

I have all of you slated for one (or more if you told me) team Baker to Vegas t-shirt. This is the t-shirt that will be available to all involved including runners and volunteers. The cost should be 16-20 depending on how many we order.

We are also ordering the dry-fit running shirts from last year. If you would like one please let me know what size you would like. You have until Wednesday of next week to let us know and then we are ordering all of the shirt.

Thanks!

Your co-captains,
LTjg Young and DC1 Wissmann

Notes from this Past Weekend

This past Saturday I met with the volunteers for the race and they are just as excited as all of us to participate. We have a really great mix of active duty, civilian, auxiliary and reserves all helping so I cannot be more thrilled about our team volunteers. Also two more official forms were submitted today, getting more final paperwork out of the way!

I was out at Huntington Beach this weekend and did not see anyone so did a run by myself. I actually like running near the pier in the AM...lots of fun people and surroundings too look at and relatively flat!

If anyone is interested in setting up a run this week please let me know. Otherwise, look for a run this upcoming weekend! Keep running and FYI...the run is only 24 days away! Let us know if you have any questions/concerns.

Your Team Captains,
LTjg Stephanie Young and DC1 Nate Wissmann

Team meeting this Friday!

Team 1790:

I would like to meet together this Friday from 1000-1100 in the Second deck conference room (JCC room). On the agenda are logistics questions, runners, shirts and leg assignments. We are also going to try and get a run together for this Sunday at 1000 (details to come).

We are at the stage where we need 100% commitment so if you cannot make it, please e-mail me. If you have questions in the interim please e-mail me as well.

Lastly, DC1 Wissmann is on recovery leave right now from surgery and I spoke to him today and he is doing really well.

Keep on running!
LTjg Stephanie Young and DC1 Nate Wissmann

Runner's Roster Due Tomorrow!

So now that I am back in town, DC1 is out of here to recuperate from surgery! It has been a whirlwind of a month, so onward to February.

We have a lot to get done in the upcoming weeks but first up is the roster. An official Team Roster of up to 45 potential runners to select from is due to race officials tomorrow. I am sending the form 30JAN09 COB (pending CO's approval).

Right now we have 6 free runner spots and 4 alternate runner spots. New rules from the race committee state that because we will be running as a federal team, we can have anyone that was stationed at Sector Los Angeles- Long Beach last year as a runner candidate to pull from.

We are here for any questions/comments/concerns!
Team Co-Captains LTjg Young and DC1 Wissmann

Good Morning from the East Coast!

I am currently TDY in D.C. working with the Armed Forces Inaugural
Committee; besides the incredibly rewarding experience it has been a
lot of fun to try out new places to run (have to stay in shape for
race day!). One of the best parts of running around D.C. is you never
know who you will run into...When I was running in the mall area I
ended up running side by side with a Two Star General on his lunch
break. He thought he was the only crazy one running in the cold, and
asked why I was braving the cold weather as well. I told him about B2V
and he thought it sounded like an amazing event and he wished Team
Coast Guard good luck.

I hope you are all getting your workouts in...and I look forward to
getting back to LA-LB and the warm weather!

Have a great weekend Team 1790,
LTjg Young

Happy New Year!

Do not forget that we have our first official team run tomorrow...A
great way to kick off 2009!

Also, a quick note about hotels:

I just heard from Joe Rudolf and he called the Hilton today. They
remarked that it was a good thing that he called for a reservation
because they are almost filled up. I know that we do not have a final
run plan, but if you are committed and part of the team regardless if
you are running, supporting, volunteering, cheerleading...please
ensure that you have a reservation.

Cheers!
Your team captains
